A set of four 200 liter drums in 1:48 scale from Metallic Details. Resin castings for a diorama, an airfield apron or an equipment yard; it is not an aircraft or vehicle kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds four castings of the standard 200 liter steel drum in 1:48 scale from Metallic Details. It is a diorama accessory, not a kit of a vehicle or aircraft: the drums fill an airfield apron, a workshop yard, a fuel depot or the bed of a vehicle. The castings are resin and are supplied unpainted.
The 200 liter drum is a universal item that you will find with practically every army and in civilian settings alike from the middle of the last century to the present day. The set is therefore tied to no single subject and no single era: it works in an aviation scene just as well as with ground equipment or in a purely civilian diorama. Four pieces are enough for a smaller corner; for a larger scene the sets are usually combined.
Wash the resin parts first in warm soapy water so that the remains of the mold release agent disappear, otherwise paint will hold poorly. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc rather than with sprue cutters: resin is brittle and will chip. Sand wet and wear respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as plastic cement does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, then the base shade with an airbrush. Scuffed drums look striking: once the paint has dried, salt or chipping fluid helps, along with a flowing wash into the rolling hoops of the body and rust pigments around the bottom.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
