About product

Yak-9T 1:32, the machine of Marcel Lefevre (ICM)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the single-seat Yakovlev Yak-9 fighter aircraft in the T version in 1:32 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The large scale allows the cockpit and the division of the surface to be rendered in more detail, but at the same time it sets higher demands on cleanliness of work. According to the name, the boxing is aimed at the machine of the French fighter pilot Marcel Lefevre. The model is supplied for assembly and painting, and the contents of the package should be checked on the box.

The real subject

The Yak-9 was one of the most widespread Soviet fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It came from a light structure combining metal and wood and existed in a series of versions differing in armament and fuel load. The T designation means the version with a heavy cannon placed on the axis of the engine and firing through the hollow propeller shaft; because of the length of the weapon the pilot's cockpit moved back, which is clearly discernible on the model. French pilots of a fighter unit deployed on the Eastern Front flew Yakovlevs of various versions, and their machines tend to be attractive for modelers because of the different markings.

Building and painting tips

In a large scale it pays to give time to the cockpit, because through the large canopy practically everything is visible. Glue the fuselage assembly in parts and check the joints dry. The wooden parts of the real subject's structure had a different surface from the metal ones, which can be suggested by a difference in the gloss of the varnish. Before the decals, go over the surfaces with a gloss varnish and once it is dry even them out with a matte one. Keep the patina restrained: large models quickly come across as overdone, and a fine emphasis on the engraved lines and light traces of service around the entries and at the wing root are enough.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in Second World War aviation
  • Modelers who want a striking model for the display case in a large scale
  • Collectors of Soviet fighter aircraft
  • More experienced builders with an interest in a detailed cockpit

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It carries a heavy cannon built on the axis of the engine, which fires through the hollow propeller shaft. Because of the length of the weapon the pilot's cockpit is moved back.

A large scale forgives small inaccuracies while handling the model, but it calls for careful fitting of the parts and clean sanding of the seams. We recommend at least basic experience.

Check the number of schemes against the illustration on the box.

They are not. The kit is supplied unpainted, and paints and glue have to be bought separately.
