Pre-cut kabuki masking films for building the AH-1Q/S Cobra attack helicopter in 1:48 scale, in the EXPERT form.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AH-1 Cobra is an American attack helicopter with a narrow fuselage and a tandem cockpit in which the gunner sits in front and the pilot behind. The machine stands on skids and along the sides of the fuselage it carries stub wings with armament pylons. The Q and S designations belong to army upgrades on which the use of anti-tank guided missiles was reckoned with.
The masking films are cut from a fine kabuki paper tape. That follows the shape of a part well, holds all around the edge and leaves no adhesive on the surface once taken off. The shapes are prepared in advance, so there is no measuring and cutting of tape directly on the model, where the surface of a part is easily scored.
Stick the films onto a clean, degreased surface before spraying and press the edges down carefully so that paint does not creep under them. Apply the paint in thin coats; a single heavy coat creates a ridge at the edge of the mask, which breaks off when it is taken away. The glazing is usually sprayed first with the interior shade and only then with the outer finish. Take the mask off soon after the paint has dried, lift the edge with the tip of a blade and pull it away at a shallow angle to the surface.
The set suits modelers who want sharp transitions between colors and clean glazing without lengthy masking with tape. The films are cut to the shape of the parts of a particular kit, so reckon with the kit the set is prepared for. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
