About product

The Hawk Mk.IX kit in 1:72 scale

A model of the Hawk Mk.IX combat spacecraft from the world of the British television series Space 1999, in 1:72 scale. The set comes from MPC, which has models based on film and television subjects in its range. It is a kit, not a finished model: before gluing, the parts are separated, cleaned up and fitted together.

The real subject

In the world of the series the Hawk is a military machine, that is the counterpart of the well-known Eagle transporters, with which it shares a utilitarian shape that pays no heed to looks. The fuselage is made up of a long beam with exposed structure, on which the engine nacelles, the crew cabin and the carried armament are hung. For the modeler that means a build with a great many separate parts and with edges that cannot be hidden, so every seam that is not brought home shows in the result.

Building and painting tips

  • Try the parts dry, above all on the long beams, where a deviation adds up along the whole length.
  • Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off.
  • Wash and degrease the parts before painting so that the paint holds.
  • Plan the build so that you paint the inside of the cabin before you close it.
  • A light base shade can be brought to life with a dark wash in the grooves and a gentle emphasis on the edges.

Who it is for

For fans of 1970s television science fiction and for modelers who want a machine with a technical, industrial look in their display case. The broken-up shape leaves room for your own take on the surface, from straight from the factory to a machine after long service.

Paints and glue are not included in the box, unless stated otherwise.
