B-26B Marauder single-sided painting mask (1:48)

A precisely cut self-adhesive painting mask in 1:48 scale by Art Scale. It is not a model and not a decal sheet, but a set of kabuki tape masks to protect the glazing during spraying. The version is single-sided: it covers the outer side of the clear parts, which is the fastest way to frame a canopy cleanly. The individual masks are numbered and together with the instructions they define exactly where each one goes. The cut is worked out for the ICM kit.

The real subject

The Martin B-26 Marauder was an American twin-engine medium bomber of the Second World War with a high speed and heavily divided glazing of the nose, the cockpit and the gun positions. It is precisely this extensive glazing that makes masking by hand a lengthy job, and accurate masks shorten it considerably.

Use

• Lift each mask by its number and stick it to the outer side of the matching clear part
• Spray over it with an airbrush or a brush in the color of the frames and the cockpit
• Remove the mask once the paint has dried and you get sharp transitions with no bleed
• Apply the paint in thin coats so that no ridges build up
