This set of figures in 1:35 scale captures soldiers of the Australian armed forces in present-day field equipment. It is not a kit of a vehicle or an aircraft, but an accessory that will give a scene scale and a story. Scale 1:35 is the most widespread military scale, so the figures match ordinary vehicles and diorama bases of the same scale in size.
In recent decades the Australian ground forces have deployed their contingents in the Middle East and in Asia, and their look differs noticeably from an American or British soldier. Typical features are their own camouflage print on the uniform, a helmet with a cover, a modular load-carrying system with pouches and added ballistic protection. It is these details that make Australian figures recognizable at first glance and set them apart from the mainstream range of modern figures.
The figures come out best in context, that is beside a vehicle, at a roadblock or in a terrain scene. First unify the base with a light primer, then build the shades of the uniform up from the darkest folds to the light edges, and only at the end tune the skin and the small equipment. Paint the camouflage pattern in a simplified way; reduced in scale, an exact copy of the pattern looks too hard. A dry brush and a fine filter will unify the uniform with the dusty tone of the surrounding scene.
