This accessory set in 1:72 scale from Black Dog represents the AGM-28 Hound Dog guided missile. It is not an aircraft kit but armament that can be hung under the wing of a strategic bomber model and give it a period-accurate look.
The AGM-28 Hound Dog was a supersonic air-to-ground guided missile developed for the B-52 strategic bomber. It was powered by a turbojet engine of its own and carried on a pair of pylons under the inner wing of the carrier. An interesting solution was that the crew could use the engines of both missiles as extra thrust on take-off and then top up their fuel from the aircraft's tanks, so the range was not shortened. It found its target by inertial navigation with stellar correction. It stayed in service from the beginning of the 1960s to the middle of the 1970s and is among the typical features of the B-52 of that time, because without it a model of the aircraft from this period looks incomplete.
First wash the castings in warm soapy water to rid them of mold release residue, or paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, and protect your airways while sanding. The parts are joined with super glue. The missile has to hang level and parallel with the axis of the aircraft, so offer the pylon and the mount up dry and check the position from the side and from behind until the glue has set.
