The sheet UNEF Canadian Ferrets - Middle East Peacekeepers 3 - Ferret Mk 1 Scout Cars in 1:35 scale brings the markings of Canadian Ferret Mk 1 vehicles from the mission in the Middle East.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Star Decals set concentrates purely on the Ferret Mk 1 version, that is on the turretless scout car with an open fighting compartment. It carries the markings of Canadian units serving in the United Nations peacekeeping force known by the abbreviation UNEF.
Canada was among the countries that joined the UNEF operation from its beginning in 1956, when it watched over the ceasefire in the area of Sinai and Gaza; in the 1970s the mission returned in a second edition. Reconnaissance platoons drove light Ferret vehicles here, because in sandy terrain they were fast, used little fuel and were easy to repair. The Mk 1 version is told apart from the turreted variant by its lower body with an open space for the commander and by the mounting of equipment on the sides of the hull.
Light United Nations schemes call for an even covering coat, because unevenness under a decal will otherwise show through. Cut the sheets tight against the design, so that as little carrier film as possible is left. Once it has clung, soak the excess water up with a paper tissue and let everything dry out properly. Keep the weathering restrained, as the vehicles of peacekeeping forces tended to be kept in presentable condition. Before you start, look the sheet over against the light, so that you know exactly where the carrier film ends.
