An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese army's fast bomber and long-range aircraft in 1:48 scale from Modelcollect. The model is molded in hard polystyrene, includes clear parts for the glazing, and a decal sheet for the Japanese Army Air Service. It is an interesting subject from the late war period with little competition on the market.
The subject is the Tachikawa Ki-74, a twin-engine aircraft developed by the Japanese Army Air Service as a high-altitude, long-range reconnaissance aircraft and later as a fast bomber. A pair of turbocharged radial engines and a pressurized cabin were meant to allow flights at high altitude and over long distances. Only a handful of prototypes and pre-production examples were built; the aircraft saw practically no combat service.
Clean up the parts with thin liquid cement and let the fuselage and engine nacelle joints cure thoroughly. Spray gloss varnish over the colored base before decals, and mask the cockpit. An airbrush suits Japanese Army schemes well, followed by fine panel-line highlighting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
