This is a turned replacement barrel for a model of the T-62 tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but a single part, and one that everyone notices first on a finished model. The plastic barrel from the box has a mold seam along its whole length, and sanding it down easily loses the circular cross section. The turned part is circular along its whole length and the muzzle has a real opening. According to the name the version is with a thermal sleeve, in other words the way the gun looked on the later machines.
The T-62 carried the 2A20 gun of 115 mm caliber, the first smoothbore tank gun put into series service. The smooth bore made it possible to use a sub-caliber round stabilized by fins instead of by spin, but it also meant a different arrangement of loading and case ejection than on earlier rifled guns. The thermal sleeve of the barrel, the jacket that limits uneven heating, appeared only on the later machines. On a model it therefore matters which version you are building: a barrel with the sleeve and one without it are not interchangeable.
The barrel is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic will not hold on metal. Try the mating surface in the gun mantlet dry, so the part seats straight and on the axis of the turret; a barrel set crooked shows from every angle. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and spray it with a primer, because without one the paint rubs off while handling. On the real machine the thermal sleeve is made of a different material from the barrel and wears differently, so it pays to set it apart in shade and texture from the rest of the barrel. Darken the muzzle with a smoke shade and a residue of soot rather than pure black.
The package contains the replacement barrel only. The model, glue and paints are not part of it.
