A figure set from Dynamo-Models in 1:35 scale out of the range the name marks with the year 40, that is the period of the French campaign of 1940. The French Laffly Crew No.1 set opens the numbered sub-range of the French crew of the Laffly vehicle and is meant as a diorama accessory, not as a vehicle kit.
Laffly was a French carmaker that supplied the army with cross-country and artillery tractors and reconnaissance vehicles with characteristic auxiliary wheels under the front of the frame. These vehicles appeared in the units of the French army at the time of the campaign of 1940 and have become a rewarding subject for kits in 1:35 scale. Crew figures are the key thing on such a vehicle: the open construction leaves the crew visible, so without people the model looks empty.
If you paint the figure yourself, start from the khaki palette of the French army of 1940 and distinguish the shades of the cloth, the leather equipment and the headgear - the contrast of materials is what makes a figure readable even over a small area. Apply the undercoat thinly so that the sharp detail of the face is preserved. Always try a crew out right at the vehicle: seated and standing figures have to fit the space available to them, and that can only be judged dry and in place. Finally tie the figure in with the model using dust pigment, so that they hold together in color.
