A kit of the French AHN2 truck in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. ICM issues this family of vehicles in several boxings, which differ in the form of the vehicle and in the accessories; this one carries the French designation of the vehicle. What the manufacturer states on the package is what decides.
The AHN was a French truck of conventional, long-nose layout from the end of the 1930s, built in the class of around three and a half tons of payload. It was a typical representative of the utility hardware of its day: a simple frame, a cab with a pronounced hood and a flatbed cargo body that could be completed with a tarpaulin or rebuilt for other uses. That is exactly why vehicles of this type appear in period photographs in the most varied forms. The version designated AHN2 is one of the variants of this series.
With a truck it pays to build in subassemblies and not to join them before they are painted. Finish the frame with the axles and the engine and spray it separately, because once the cab is fitted you will not reach it again. The same goes for the interior of the cab, which is clearly visible through the glazing. Mask the glazing before spraying, not after. Leave the wheels loose until the end; they are easier both to spray and to weather. For the finish on utility hardware a restrained procedure works: a thin wash into the engraved lines and the edges of the body, then a dry brush on the edges that a load would have rubbed in service, and finally dust pigments from the wheels upward, less and less the higher you go. Overdone weathering is more distracting on a civilian-looking vehicle than it is on combat hardware.
