1:35 Apocalyptic roadblocks from Black Dog are free-standing barriers that are set into a diorama scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
Unlike a base, these are free-standing elements that are set into a setting as needed. The barriers block a road, mark a checkpoint or narrow a passage between buildings, and the scene gains tension without your having to rebuild the whole terrain.
They work best set at an angle across the road rather than square to it. An oblique arrangement creates an S-shaped passage that the viewer reads at once, and several pieces one behind the other at different angles look more convincing than a regular row. If you leave one of them overturned or pulled aside, the setting starts telling by itself what happened here.
Do the warning stripes over masking tape and then break the edges up by stippling with a sponge; a perfectly sharp stripe reads like stuck-on paper. Concentrate the scuffs on the corners and the lower edges, where wheels and boots strike. A dusty shade settled in the lower third finishes the rest, because dirt does not normally get any higher. Anyone who wants to go further will add hand-painted lettering and marks of impact to the surfaces.
The elements are set into finished terrain and completed with paint; do not count a base or figures as part of them, since everyone chooses those to suit their own setting.
