A plastic kit of the small harbor tug BB-19 Boomin Beaver in the colors of the US Navy. 1:35 scale, that is the same as ordinary ground equipment and figures.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boomin Beaver is a type of small working tug of the kind originally used on rivers and in timber operations for handling floating logs. The US Navy took to its robustness for a different task: pushing and opening the floating booms which close the entrance to military harbors. The designation BB-19 refers to the length of the vessel in feet, which hints at how tiny it really is. Practically the whole hull is taken up by the engine room and a small cabin for one person, and the rest is a working deck with fenders.
It is precisely that smallness which makes the boat an ideal subject for 1:35 scale, in which an ordinary vessel would take up half a table. Here it fits on a base comparable with a model of a truck and still keeps all its detail. The crucial advantage lies in its being combinable with figures and equipment from the most widespread ground scale.
The assembly matches an ordinary plastic kit: the parts are separated from the sprues, cleaned up and glued. Given the one-piece hull it pays to plan the painting procedure in advance, because once the superstructure is glued on, the vertical surfaces are harder to reach. The underwater section will take being set apart markedly in shade, and on the sides at the waterline fine accentuation of wear and rust is in place. The model comes into its own in a harbor scene with a pier and a water surface of resin, where it can be completed with a standing figure and a few crates.
