Eduard Brassin 1:35 Bren Mk. I

A resin detail set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a weapon on its own: the British Bren Mk. I light machine gun in 1:35 scale, complemented by a small photo-etched fret. The set is intended to bring life to Second World War dioramas, figures and military vehicles.

The real subject

The Bren was a British .303 light machine gun with a characteristic curved top-mounted magazine and a bipod. It served as the mainstay of Commonwealth infantry sections throughout the war and long afterwards. The set offers several magazine variants plus the bipod and accessories that let the weapon fit into a scene.

Fitting and tips

Wash the mold release agent off the parts, carefully cut off the casting blocks and sand them with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Bend the photo-etched elements gently. Paint the body of the weapon in dark steel or gun blue, add brown shades to the wooden parts and pick them out lightly with a dry brush.
