1:35 British PIAT Team Set (2 Figures)

The crew as a whole, not as two separate figures

The anti-tank squads of the British infantry worked in fixed pairs and for a modeler they make sense precisely that way: one soldier in the firing position, the other ready to pass up the next bomb. This package joins both figures into one product, so there is no need to put the scene together from pieces obtained separately, and the two figures match each other in shape, because they came out of the same series.

A little history for the scene

The weapon, introduced in 1943, first proved itself on a larger scale in the fighting in the Mediterranean and then fully in Normandy. Its range against armored targets was short, on the order of tens of meters, and it was also useful for shelling fortified positions on an indirect trajectory at several hundred meters. British airborne units took it with them even where heavier anti-tank armament could not get.

Building and recommendations

Both figures are cast in resin, unassembled and without paint. Before you start gluing, try standing the figures dry on the planned base and find the angle at which they really communicate with each other: in a two-man scene the way they are turned toward each other matters more than the finest coat of paint. Cyanoacrylate glue holds reliably on resin, but the joints have to be clean and free of grease.

The composition of the pair

The distance between the figures decides the readability of the scene more than their paint does. When the figures are far apart, the scene falls apart into two unconnected pieces; when they touch, it stops being clear what each of them is doing. A distance that has proved itself is about the length of the forearm of a scale figure, that is a few millimeters, with the heads turned toward each other or toward a common target.
