The set contains three resin figures of a British tank crew in 1:35. It is not a vehicle kit but an add-on to a finished model: the figures serve to populate the hull, the turret or the area around a vehicle and give a scene both scale and a story. Resin castings offer a sharper rendering of the folds of the clothing, the equipment and the faces than is usual with injection-molded plastic.
The pattern and the pose
The clothing matches the late pattern of the field uniform with a cut typical of British crews serving in the Mediterranean area. For a modeler the important thing is that the figures are conceived as a group with poses that follow on from one another, so they can be placed on one vehicle without reading as three unrelated castings. The particular pose of the individual parts is apparent from the illustration on the packaging.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, so that the remains of mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, not with nippers, and sand the cut faces down. Protect your breathing while sanding resin and work wet. Glue the joints with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and fill any gaps with modeling filler.
Before painting, apply a quality primer that holds on resin. Build the uniform from a darker base on which you gradually brighten the crests of the folds, and deepen the shadows instead with a thin wash. Paint the skin separately, with calm transitions and no sharp edges. Fine highlights on the edges will bring the leather straps and the equipment to life. Bring a finished figure together with a matte clear coat and add any dust or sand on the footwear at the very end with pigments.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
