About product

1:35 British RAC soldiers refueling, North Africa (PANZER ART)

A resin set of figures in 1:35 from the Polish brand PANZER ART. The figures are modeled for one particular action — refueling an armored vehicle in the conditions of North Africa. That sets them apart from static crew figures: the set carries a scene, not merely an extra figure.

Clothing and the role in the scene

The figures are conceived in tropical dress, that is in light clothing of a loose cut such as was worn in a desert setting. For a modeler that means two things. First, more bare skin shows, so painting the skin and the transitions on the arms has a greater share in the result than on covered winter figures. Second, the fabric is light and of low contrast, which puts the emphasis on shading the folds — without it the surface reads flat. In a scene the figures work beside a vehicle, by jerry cans or by fuel drums; you will appreciate the set above all where you want to show the work of a crew around a tank rather than a parade stance.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap — you will remove the remains of mold release agent, on which paint does not hold. Separate the figures from the casting blocks with a fine saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers: resin is hard and cracks at thin places. Sanding is better done wet and with breathing protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and the joints are filled. A thin primer follows, which brings the surface together and brings out the shapes. For light tropical clothing an approach starting from a mid base layer suits: lightened edges of the folds, a darker glaze into the recesses, and at the end fine dust with pigments on the footwear and the hems of the trouser legs. Metal jerry cans and containers are worth bringing out with wear in graphite or dark steel.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of dioramas who want to show a particular activity beside a vehicle
  • Modelers of British equipment in 1:35
  • Anyone interested in painting skin and light fabrics
  • More advanced modelers used to working with resin

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a set, that is more than one figure; check the particular number against the illustration on the packaging.

Resin figures are more demanding than plastic ones. The parts have to be washed, separated from the casting blocks by cutting and glued with cyanoacrylate glue. A careful beginner will manage it, but we recommend a first figure in plastic.

Any British armored vehicle in 1:35 set in a North African setting. The figures are not tied to a particular kit.

Go by the fact that you are buying figures; check any accessories against the illustration on the packaging.
