A set of Star Decals devoted to the British modifications of the Sherman tank, which came about for tasks an ordinary tank was not suited to. According to the name these are the BARV recovery vehicle, the Crab mine-clearing tank and the Crocodile flamethrower tank, that is three entirely different machines on a common chassis.
The BARV, that is the Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle, lost its turret and received a tall watertight superstructure in its place. Its task was to pull stranded vehicles out of the surf and clear wrecks from the exit lanes, so that a single broken-down machine would not block the landing. The Crab carried at the front, on a boom, a rotating drum with chains that beat into the ground and set off mines before the vehicle drove onto them. The Crocodile was a flamethrower modification, in which the fuel traveled to the nozzle from a towed armored trailer. All three belonged to the family of specialized armored vehicles with which the British supplemented the ordinary tank units.
On these vehicles the markings often end up on broken surfaces beside side superstructures, booms and brackets. It pays, therefore, to cut a decal into smaller pieces and seat them in parts, so that the film does not break over an edge. Level the base with gloss varnish, matte it down once it has dried and only then apply the mud and dust that belong to the character of the real subject with these machines.
