The set contains unpainted figures of Russian line infantry of the Napoleonic period dressed in long outer greatcoats and placed in a static stance, where the butt of the weapon rests on the ground beside the foot. The material is soft plastic, the scale is 1:72 and the figures are not assembled. The static pose is universal in a diorama: it suits a guard, a muster, an artillery position and also serves as a resting element that balances more mobile groups.
The greatcoat was with Russian infantry a basic winter and field item of dress and in painting it fundamentally changes the look of a figure, because it covers the coat and most of the equipment. The headdress, the white crossbelts, the knapsack and the weapon with bayonet stay visible. It is precisely the simplicity of the color scheme that makes these figures a good basis for large scenes, where colorful parade uniforms would look unnatural.
With soft plastic the procedure is settled and it pays not to get around it. First the deburring: take the flash along the parting line off with a sharp scalpel, at the feet and between the weapon and the body, but do not press too hard, as the material digs in easily. Washing in lukewarm water with detergent follows, which removes residues of the release agent from the mold. Once dry, apply a thin layer of base primer in several light passes, as a heavy layer floods the detail. Paint the greatcoat with the base tone, accent the folds with a glaze and run a dry brush over the edges. Draw the crossbelts with a thin brush in one smooth stroke, as corrections are noticed in this scale. Matte clear at the end unifies the surface and protects the paint.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, primer and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
