Holographic film for imitating the optics of the BTR-70 in 1:35 scale from SX-Art will replace the flat plastic imitations of the lenses of observation instruments. It is not a mask set but ready-made clear elements to lay on.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for builders of armored vehicles that addresses one of the most conspicuous shortcomings of every kit, namely painted plastic in a place where glass belongs. The set contains holographic film with elements cut for the observation and sighting instruments of the armored personnel carrier BTR-70 in 1:35 scale. The elements are set onto the surface left by the plastic imitation of the glass and, thanks to the holographic layer, change shade with the angle of view, so the optics on a finished model really do look like glass and not like a gray or blue patch of paint. It is neither a mask set nor printed stickers, but clear elements that replace the imitation of glass.
The BTR-70 is an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier of Soviet origin that followed on from the older BTR-60 and stayed in the armament of a number of armies for a very long time. The crew and the troops orient themselves mainly through vision ports and periscopes distributed over the hull and the turret, because a wheeled hull offers only small windows. There are a fair number of those observation elements on the vehicle and on a model in 1:35 scale not one of them can be overlooked. When they all come across as plastic, the model loses a great deal of the impression of a real vehicle.
Put the film on right at the very end, that is after the painting, the varnish, the decals and the weathering are finished. Degrease the surface beforehand and let it dry perfectly. Take the elements out with tweezers with smooth jaws, so that no prints stay on the surface. They are glued with a colorless glue for clear parts that does not cloud the surface as it dries. Do not use cyanoacrylate glue, because its fumes will fog the clear surface and ruin the film. The elements must not be painted or varnished over, because any layer on top cancels the whole effect. If you flatten the model, leave the film aside and put it on only once the matte varnish has dried.
The film is supplied as an accessory for a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
