An injection-molded plastic kit of a concrete pillbox (an armored casemate) for one machine gun in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Mirage Hobby. It is neither a vehicle nor a figure but a structure that will serve as a striking focal point of a diorama. The model is made up of walls, a roof and a door with a realistically rendered concrete surface, formwork impressions and small battle damage. The weapon is not included in the package.
Concrete armored casemates of this type were built as part of fortified lines and served to defend a field of fire laid down along the flank. Thick concrete walls protected the machine gun crew and a narrow embrasure limited hits from outside. Similar pillboxes were deployed within the fortification systems of the Second World War and are a rewarding subject for battle dioramas and for stand-alone display scenes.
Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic and align the larger surfaces carefully, so that the walls meet at a right angle. The concrete comes into its own once primed and given gray and sand shades; for a realistic look, use washes in the recesses, drybrushing on the edges and pigments for dust and mud on the lower part. Marks left by hits and exposed reinforcement can be brought out with darker shades and rust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, the machine gun and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
