About product

Eduard 1:35 CH-54A painting mask

A masking set for a model of the CH-54A helicopter in 1:35 scale. The masks are cut exactly to the shape of the glazing frames; all you do is lift them off the backing, stick them onto the clear part, spray and remove them once dry. That does away with cutting masking tape by hand, where every inaccurate cut shows on a finished model.

The basic variant. Eduard offers two masking sets for this machine. This one is the basic one. Alongside it there is a TFace variant, which additionally deals with the inner face of the glazing. If you want the frames in cabin color from within, look for that one.

The real subject

The Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe is an American heavy helicopter of the flying crane concept. Between the cabin and the tail the fuselage is narrowed to a beam, and the load is carried slung beneath it or in a container between the tall landing gear legs. The cabin has a large area of glazing, including the lower panes, and a station for a crew member facing aft who watches the load directly below him. There are therefore plenty of frames on a model and they take a long time to mask.

How to use the mask

Wash the grease off the clear part and let it dry. Carry the masks with tweezers and press the edges down with a toothpick so that no paint runs under them. First spray the frames with interior color and only then with the outside color — the transition is then not visible from within. Spray in thin coats; a heavy coat creates a step at the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not after a longer time, and correct any small run-under with the tip of a toothpick.

Who the mask is for

  • Modelers who do not want to cut masking tape by hand
  • Builders of a large helicopter with extensive glazing
  • Those for whom masking from the outer face is enough
  • Modelers looking for quick and clean preparation for spraying

The mask is an accessory for a model. The plastic model, paints and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. This is the basic variant. The inner face is dealt with by the set designated TFace, which Eduard has separately for the same machine.

Reckon on single use. Once taken off, a mask no longer sits exactly.

Shortly after the paint has dried. The longer it lies on the part, the worse it comes off.

It is not. It is a masking accessory for a CH-54A model in 1:35 scale, which is sold separately.
