The chapeau de brousse is a light cloth hat with a wide brim, which the French army introduced under the designation pattern 49. The brim shades the face and the neck, the cloth breathes and the hat can be squeezed into a pocket, so in a warm and humid climate it was worn instead of a helmet. It gives figures of French units an unmistakable look and tells them apart from the soldiers of other armies at first glance. The same hat is made in two forms and this is the one with a chin strap.

It finds a use when building French figures and when modifying figures from other sets, because the headgear is the first thing a viewer notices on a figure.
Cut the excess material and the traces of manufacture off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down carefully. On the thin brim proceed in small steps, so that it does not break off. Wash and degrease the part before painting. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: on polystyrene a glue for plastic models, on resin and printed parts a super glue. While painting, a darker base and a lighter tone drawn onto the upper surface of the brim help, so that the cloth gains depth and the hat does not come across as a pressed lump of material. Leave the strap set apart by shade from the cloth, otherwise it will blend in at this scale.
