This item is not a vehicle kit but a diorama base: the groundwork of a scene with the subject of old German townscape in 1:35 scale. The base gives the view its plan and its boundaries, which is exactly what decides the final impression before a single model is set in place. The historic core of a town is also a subject that will carry vehicles as well as a figure composition on its own.
Old German towns kept their medieval cores until 1945: tight street lines, half-timbered and rendered houses, irregular square plans and narrow passages between the blocks. It was this kind of building that became the set piece of the final fighting in Germany in 1945, when advancing along streets replaced maneuver in open country. The subject therefore works for Allied and German vehicles of the end of the war, but it serves a civilian scene from an interwar town just as well.
In a city scene it is the view through that counts: leave one axis clear so that the eye has somewhere to travel, and concentrate the mass toward the opposite edge. A vehicle set at an angle to the street line looks more natural in a tight space than one parallel to a wall. Joining it to the surrounding buildings, paving and small accessories in the same scale then closes the scene into a whole. The modeler chooses the vehicles and figures to suit the subject.
