1:35 traffic guard 1939 is a figure of a member of the traffic service of the late 1930s, intended for dioramas and for vehicles in the same scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The figure represents a member of the traffic guard in the appearance connected with the year 1939. It is not a model of a vehicle but a figure that gives a diorama scale, action and a period setting. The 1:35 size is the most common format for ground vehicles, so the figure joins easily with cars, motorcycles and elements of street furniture of the same size.
The traffic guard was responsible for supervising and directing road traffic. The service uniforms of the late 1930s were plain, in a single color and without colorful accessories; their character came from the headgear, the belt and the service badge. In a scene the figure therefore works as a civilian counterweight to military figures and shifts the setting from a battlefield to a street.
An intersection, a level crossing, a courtyard or an arterial road with a period car or truck all suggest themselves. It also works well by a railing, by a road sign or on the sidewalk beside a stopped vehicle, where it fills an empty space and directs the viewer's eye.
The uniforms of the time stay within muted blue-gray and gray-green shades. Lay the base down over the whole area, bring out the edges and folds with a lighter tone and let a dark wash into the recesses. The skin needs fine transitions, otherwise the face will lose its expression in a display case. Leave the metal parts dark and lighten them only by a hint; a matte final coat will tie the surface together.
