A plastic kit of the British FV217 Badger project tank destroyer in 1:35 scale from Amusing Hobby. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a set of injection-molded parts. Amusing Hobby has long focused on unrealized and prototype armored vehicles, that is on a subject that is hard to come by and that attracts builders precisely because it has not been done to death.
The Badger belonged to the British post-war family of heavy tracked vehicles of the FV200 series, of which it was chiefly the Conqueror heavy tank that reached production. The concept was based on a turretless layout with a powerful anti-tank weapon in a fixed superstructure: a lower silhouette, thicker frontal armor and a simpler design than with a rotating turret, at the cost of limited traverse. The vehicle remained at the project stage and never entered service, so the surviving documentation is limited and the modeling treatment is based on design drawings.
Finish and paint the running gear, the wheels and any interior detail before you close the hull up, because once it is glued you will no longer reach them. Cut the parts off with nippers one by one and level the sprue remains with a knife rather than by twisting. Use a thin cement for plastic applied into the seam with a fine brush. Once it is glued, spray the whole model with a base coat, which will reveal small scratches and the remains of parting lines. Spray the base shade with an airbrush in several thin coats, and then lay a gloss clear coat under the decals. Build the weathering from the bottom up: first a dark wash into the recesses and the rivets, then dry dust pigments on the running gear and the lower parts of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
