The model is released in 1:35 scale by the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa, which works on construction and handling machinery as a separate range beside aircraft and cars. The kit is unassembled and unpainted; the number of parts, the extent of the decals and the movement of the arm are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The Zaxis 135US is one of the compact mid-class tracked excavators. The US designation refers to the short-tail form, on which the counterweight practically does not project beyond the width of the undercarriage as the cab rotates. That is exactly why these machines are used in narrow streets, in yards and inside halls, where an ordinary excavator would not have enough room. In the crusher version the arm is fitted with hydraulic shears that crush concrete structures and separate the reinforcement, so the machine serves for demolition and for recycling building rubble.
With construction machinery it pays to build and paint the undercarriage separately, while it is accessible from every side. Leave the tracks and the underside in a darker shade and only then fit the body. The characteristic orange or yellow finish comes out well over a light base; before that, though, degrease the surface well and spray in thin coats so that the engraved details of the panels are not lost. A working machine will take pronounced weathering: dust pigments on the undercarriage, a dark wash into the gaps of the cab and fine chipping with silver paint on the edges of the arm and the crusher. Glue the cab glass in at the very end with a cyanoacrylate glue intended for clear parts so that it does not fog.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
