A kit of the AH-64A Apache attack helicopter in 1:35 scale from the South Korean brand Academy, released in a version marked after an Air National Guard unit of the state of South Carolina. For a helicopter the 1:35 scale is fairly generous — the finished model is of a striking size and both the intricate lattice structure of the landing gear and the weapon pylons and the tandem cockpit stand out on it. The model is supplied unassembled, as injection-molded plastic sprues with a decal sheet; the composition of the package and the number of marking options are given in the instructions in the box.
The AH-64 Apache is a twin-engine attack helicopter with a tandem cockpit in which the gunner sits in front and the pilot behind and higher. The AH-64A version was the first production form of the type. The armament consists of a movable 30 mm cannon under the forward fuselage and weapons carried on two stub-wing pylons — anti-tank guided missiles and pods with unguided rockets. The design was from the outset laid out with the ruggedness of the airframe and the separation of key systems in mind. The type was developed by the Hughes company; series production later passed to other manufacturers.
Finish and paint the cockpit, the seats and the instrument panels before you close the glazing; on a helicopter you can see into the cockpit more than on an airplane. Glue the glazing with an adhesive for clear parts that does not fog. Leave the weapon pylons and the landing gear until the end so that you do not damage the model while handling it. Painting: apply the dark base shade with an airbrush over a primer, pick out the panel lines with a flowing shade and a matte clear coat will unify the surface. In practice rotor blades wear on the leading edges, and a fine abrasion there looks believable. The particular shades according to the standards can be found in the instructions in the box.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
