1:35 IS 2 accessories set

The real subject

The IS-2 was a Soviet heavy tank of the Second World War that carried a 122 mm gun. Its heavy shell made it a tool for demolishing fortifications and for firing at the most heavily armored targets; the price for it was separate-loading ammunition and the low rate of fire that came with it. It was used from 1944 in independent heavy regiments, which were assigned to break through a defense.

What the set is for

This is an accessories set for the IS-2 model in 1:35 scale. It is precisely on Soviet heavy tanks that added equipment plays a large part: the extensive smooth areas of armor otherwise look empty and the model ends up looking more like a scaled-down drawing than a machine in the field. Arrange the accessories according to period photographs rather than symmetrically, because crews laid their vehicle out in their own way.

Building tips

First dry-fit the parts and mark their position lightly in pencil. Cut the surplus material and the traces of manufacture away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest off with fine paper. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Paint the accessories separately and glue them onto a dried primer coat on the hull, so that a natural deposit of dust and mud can form around them. The small pieces are more comfortable to hold when glued to a stick. If you weather the model, leave the dirt on the accessories a little heavier than on the upper surfaces of the hull, from which rain washed it away. The exact extent of the package is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
