A plastic kit of the Jagdpanzer IV L/48 in the early version and in 1:35 scale from Border Model. It is a model of a tracked tank destroyer of the period of the Second World War, that is a fighting vehicle without a rotating turret and with the weapon mounted directly in the front plate of the superstructure.
Border Model is one of the newer brands which in 1:35 scale concentrate on fine surface finish and on the breakdown of the parts. The early version is an important piece of information with this type, because the vehicle changed in a number of details in the course of production.
The Jagdpanzer IV was a tank destroyer built on the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank. Instead of a turret it received a low armored superstructure with sloped front surfaces, and in it a fixed 7.5 cm gun with a barrel 48 calibers long, hence the designation L/48. The low silhouette was the main design advantage of the vehicle, because it was easier to conceal in the terrain. Series production ran from 1944 and the vehicles were later replaced by the variant with the longer barrel. The early examples differed from the later ones for example in the form of the muzzle and in other details of the hull.
First finish the running gear and all the internal parts that will no longer be accessible once the hull is closed. It is practical to paint the wheels and the tracks separately and to fit them only after the basic coat on the hull. Spray a gloss clear before the decals and, once it is dry, coat it with a matte one. The patina on a vehicle of this type is built up in layers: a dark wash in the recesses and around the rivets, then a dry brush on the edges and finally pigments for mud and dust effects on the lower hull and the tracks. The muzzle and the exhausts are darkened at the very end, so that the effect does not get smeared.
