1:35 'Ninth' (1 fig.)

A single 1:35 figure from an author's line

An individual figure for a diorama scene. The name Ninth is the title of a work, not a description of the gear: what exactly the figure represents cannot be read from it. According to the figure in brackets this is one figure in 1:35 scale. In the numbered line it is one of the items that carry the titles of pictures rather than descriptions of soldiers.

Before you place it in a scene

It pays to settle the gesture and the turn of the head first and only then plan the surroundings. With genre figures it is the gesture and the turn of the head that decide; from them you can tell where the figure will be looking and what it is actually doing in the scene. Only then does it make sense to choose the terrain, the building or the hardware around it. Author figures tend to be designed for a single situation, so the scene is chosen to suit them rather than the other way round.

Tips for painting a small figure

• Use well thinned paint and build the tone up in layers.
• Keep the contrast in the recesses and leave the highlights light.
• Look over the surface of the casting against a sharp light.
• Finish the face before you start on the clothing.
• Unify the base with the terrain so that the figure does not hang in the air.

Who the figure is for

For collectors of small figures and for modelers who put scenes together from individual figures instead of ready-made sets. The material, the height and the division of the parts are not in the name and are not stated here. The name is an author's title, so it is worth comparing the appearance of the neighboring items of the same line.
