About product

Israeli recognition markings and numbers in 1:35 scale

An insignia set, not a camouflage one. It draws the small elements that appear on Israeli equipment on the sides of the hull, on the rear and on the turret, and its extent is arranged so as to serve several different machines at once.

A system used nowhere else

The Israeli ground forces worked out their own way of distinguishing units, built on simple geometric shapes and arrows. These are supplemented by sequence numbers and by accompanying markings for recognition from the air. Given that the same unit could, over the course of a few years, move from a rebuilt Sherman to a Centurion and later to a Merkava, the way of marking holds across generations of equipment. That is why the name lists a whole range, from the Sherman with a 105 mm gun through the Centurion to the home-built Merkava, and with them an armored bulldozer and a self-propelled howitzer, that is, machines that serve alongside tanks in the units.

Application and frequent mistakes

Before setting an element down, measure the distance from the edge on the model, otherwise the marking will come out at a different height on each side. Press the stencil down from the edge inward, not with a fingernail from above. Spray at right angles, thinly, and let it set between layers. Israeli equipment tends to be covered with a thick layer of dust, so sprayed markings usually should not stay completely sharp and it is in order to dust them lightly at the end.

Where the set finds its use

  • builds of Israeli equipment in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who build several machines of one unit
  • surfaces on which decals do not hold
  • adding sequence numbers on the hull

The set contains masking elements, not paint and not a model.

FAQ

The name lists five different types. The marking system is in fact shared across generations of equipment in Israeli units.

It is the Israeli rebuild of the Sherman with a 105 mm gun, which served alongside the newer types.

Mostly not. The vehicles carry a thick layer of dust, so finished markings are usually dusted lightly.

Measure the distance from the same edge of the hull and only then set the element down. Judging by eye never matches on two sides.
