A plastic kit of the Chinese medium tank in its 59-2 version in 1:35 scale from the brand Hobby Boss. The model represents the modernized variant of the basic Type 59, which was the backbone of Chinese armored units for decades. The kit is intended to be glued together and painted and belongs to the standard range of military vehicles in the most widespread scale for armor.
The Type 59 was the Chinese counterpart of the Soviet medium tank T-54A; its production started up in China at the end of the 1950s and continued in enormous numbers for several decades. The 59-2 version represents a modernization step whose most noticeable element is the replacement of the original 100 mm gun with a 105 mm gun of Western design, together with changes to the fire control system. What was kept is the classic cast dome-shaped turret, five road wheels on each side without return rollers and the low silhouette typical of the whole family derived from the T-54. Modernized Type 59s served with Chinese units and with a number of foreign users.
Finish and paint the running gear and the lower part of the hull before you close the hull up and fit the fenders, because they are hard to reach afterwards. Fit the tracks with a natural sag between the wheels. Suggest the cast surface of the turret by stippling an old brush into a layer of liquid cement or putty, so that it matches the coarser texture of a casting. Fit the gun only after the base coat, so that masking underneath it goes well. Paint with an airbrush and bring a single-color green scheme to life by lightening the upper surfaces and putting a darker shade into the recesses. Build the weathering in layers: first a wash into the details, then dust and finally mud on the running gear and the fenders with pigments. Suggest bare metal on the edges with a graphite pencil.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
