Working with the paint

Start with degreasing and an even base, which evens out surfaces that absorb differently. Apply a dark flowing shade into the cracks and under the lintel and wipe the excess downward, so that the traces of running water appear. Pick out the worn edges with a light dry brush and let grayish dust settle in the corners.
