An injection-molded plastic kit of the ChTZ S-65 (Stalinets) tracked tractor in the form with an enclosed cab, 1:35 scale, made by Trumpeter. The richly broken-up set contains photo-etched parts and individual track links that have to be assembled from parts, so it faithfully captures the running gear of this artillery tractor.
The ChTZ S-65 (Stalinets) was originally an agricultural tracked tractor which, after 1941, became the most widespread tracked artillery tractor of the Red Army. It was powered by a diesel engine of around 65 horsepower and, thanks to its great pulling power, it moved even heavy weapons, for example the 152 mm ML-20 howitzer or the heavy 203 mm B-4 howitzer, across the churned-up terrain of the Eastern Front. The version with a cab gave the driver protection from the weather.
The key to a realistic result is the individual track links: assemble them patiently and leave them movable so that they sit nicely on the road wheels. Paint and weather the engine and the running gear before you close the covers. Use thin cement on the plastic, prime the whole model and paint with an airbrush. A working machine will take strong weathering: greasy streaks on the engine, rusted areas, a dark wash and heavy mud and dust effects with pigments on the tracks and the chassis.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
