This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the German heavy eight-wheeled armored car Sd.Kfz.234/1 in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Italeri. According to the manufacturer the package contains rubber tires, a photo-etched part and decals for several marking variants. The model faithfully captures the characteristic hull and the open turret of the vehicle.
The Sd.Kfz.234/1 was a German eight-wheeled armored reconnaissance car deployed at the end of the Second World War. It was powered by an air-cooled Tatra diesel engine, which gave the vehicle a long range and decent speed. The 234/1 version carried a 2 cm KwK 38 cannon and a coaxial machine gun in an open hexagonal turret and served for reconnaissance and screening; thanks to all-wheel drive and steering on all axles it was agile in the field and on withdrawal routes. The eight-wheeled vehicles of the 234 range were among the fastest German armored vehicles of their day.
On an eight-wheeled vehicle, assemble and paint the chassis and the axles before finishing the hull, while they are easily accessible. The rubber tires are easy to mask and paint separately and to fit at the very end. Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement and the fine photo-etched elements with super glue; spray the kit over a primer. The open turret invites detailing of the interior of the fighting compartment and the mounting of the cannon. Lighten the base color on the upper surfaces, then create the weathering with a wash into the recesses and with pigments for dust and mud on the chassis and wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
