Reconnaissance detachments rode ahead of the main forces and their chief instrument was the fast armored car. The Sd.Kfz 222 had a crew of three, a 2 cm quick-firing cannon and above all the ability to vanish before anyone could take proper aim at it. What was learned on a ride like that decided the advance of a whole formation, and when a car was stuck with a damaged tire, the situation turned very unpleasant for its crew.
It is exactly such a moment that this set makes it possible to capture. The rubber is modeled in the collapsed state, slumped over the edge of the rim and rippled all the way round, a shape that round parts from a mold will never offer. The tread profile matches the third of three designs listed for this vehicle and the parts are worked for the early production rendering.
There is a case for using them beyond a damaged car. On a wreck laid up by the road, on an example awaiting repair in a rear workshop, or as an accessory to a car standing on a hydraulic jack in a diorama, a collapsed tire looks entirely natural. The figure in the name states four wheels and one spare.
The variant is intended for the Tamiya kit. Before fitting it is worth leveling any marks left by the parting line, because on softly shaped rubber they show more than on a smooth surface.
Whichever profile you pick, on one car it is good to keep the same design on both axles, unless of course you want to capture a field improvisation on purpose.
The choice of profile is in the end a matter of the subject: a photograph of one particular unit will reveal which shape of tread a car carried.
