The tires of German armored cars came during the war from several suppliers and their patterns differed from one another. The maker of this range therefore split the wheels into three numbered designs and leaves the decision to the modeler, who picks his machine from a period photograph. The designation type 1 belongs to one of the patterns common on cars built in the later period.
A wheel without air changes the whole mood of a scene. The car leans toward the damaged side, the body drops a good way lower and the viewer works out for himself the story that led to it. Most often such a wheel suits abandoned equipment along a road, a machine caught after running onto a mine, or a diorama from a repair workshop. One such wheel out of the five is enough and the model stops looking like a show piece on a flat board.
According to the name the set is prepared for the Hobby Boss kit. Before gluing it pays to run a drill of matching diameter through the hole in the hub, because the chamfered stub then slides in without pressure and there is no risk of twisting the tire. The lean of the damaged wheel is set before the glue dries: the model is stood on a flat surface and the wheel turned so that the footprint of the tread lies across its full width on the base. Only then is the joint fixed for good.
The rubber of late tires was not black, rather gray-brown and faded in the sun. A base in a dark gray shade, a light lightening of the tread edges and finally fine dust from the sides of the vehicle give the wheel a depth that full black never has. The rim can be shaded with a thin brush without masking, because the transition between it and the tire is clearly cut on the casting.
