For a pair of light half-tracks

The Sd.Kfz. 250 and Sd.Kfz. 10 come from a common basis of a light half-track vehicle and differ mainly in the superstructure: one is an armored personnel carrier, the other an open tractor. Their front steered axle is the same, and therefore one set of wheels will satisfy both. It pays off too for anyone building both machines into one scene.

The common off-road tread

The name marks the tread as the widespread off-road variant, that is the pattern you will meet most often in period photographs. For the builder it is a safe choice: if you do not know the subject down to the last detail, with this tread you will as a rule not go wide of the mark. The Continental marking in the name names the variant of the pattern. Anyone building from one particular photograph will find less usual treads in the same line.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the wheels before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly on the smooth surface.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down.
• Apply the paint in thin coats, as a thick coat clogs the grooves of the tread and the pattern is lost.
• Paint the wheel hub separately from the rubber, as the transition is clearly visible on the model.
• Fit the wheels dry and check the wheel track and that they stand square, and only then glue them.
• Super glue proves itself for joining them to the model.
