The Sd.Kfz. 6 was a medium German half-track tractor from the time of the Second World War, listed in the five-ton class of towing vehicles. It carried the crew with their equipment and towed artillery pieces. At the rear a tracked chassis carried it, at the front an ordinary axle with wheels on tires. The front wheels were not powered and served for steering; on a model they are conspicuous all the same, because they stand free in front of the tracked chassis and nothing covers them.
The set brings replacement front wheels in 1:35 with a common off-road tread, which the name links with Continental tires. An off-road pattern is coarser and more open than a road one and you will recognize it in period photographs even from a distance. If you are building a particular machine from a photograph, the tread is just what lets the wheel be brought closer to the subject; the set therefore does not aim at a fault in the kit, but at the choice of rendering.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down, so that the edges of the tread are not damaged. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as paint holds badly on a greasy surface. Choose the glue according to the material given on the packaging; the exact procedure follows the manufacturer's instructions. You can manage the painting with a brush too: a dark gray base for the tire, a pass of a dry brush a shade lighter over the tread and finally a fine dusting according to the setting you place the model in. Leave the rim in the vehicle color, which visually divides the wheel.
What is supplied is the wheels alone. The tractor kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
