This is a resin accessory set, not a model of the vehicle. It replaces the front steered axle of the Sd.Kfz.251 half-track armored personnel carrier in 1:35 scale and is designed so that the wheels can be turned to the side. Most kits have the front wheels fixed straight ahead, which looks lifeless on a vehicle standing in a diorama or turning into a corner. Turned wheels are at the same time one of those details that do a great deal of work for the overall impression with very little effort. The axle is designed as a direct replacement for the part from the kit, so check before you buy that you have the matching base model.
The Sd.Kfz.251 combined a front steered axle with wheels and a rear tracked running gear. The front axle was not driven and served for steering; its parts, the leaf spring and the shock absorbers are clearly visible on a model between the fenders, and on a vehicle turned into a corner their geometry is apparent at first glance. The vehicle was produced in many modifications, from reconnaissance to support types, and in 1:35 scale it is one of the most frequently built subjects of all.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a knife, do not snap them, and sand the surfaces wet with respiratory protection. The thin parts of the axle are fragile, so work over a surface and do not rush. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); if you want to keep the ability to steer, do not glue the joints at the pivot and merely locate them mechanically instead. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint will hold poorly on resin. The axle is easiest to paint and weather before it is fitted under the hull, where a brush will no longer reach.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
