A plastic kit of the field howitzer of 100 mm caliber, Skoda model 14, in 1:35 scale from IBG Models. The subject is a gun from the production of the Skoda works in Plzen — so it is equipment with Czech roots, even though during the First World War it served in the Austro-Hungarian army. The model contains a well detailed carriage, shield and barrel; the kit is meant to be glued and painted.
The Skoda 10 cm howitzer model 14 (M.14) was designed at the Skoda works in Plzen before the First World War and became one of the most widespread Austro-Hungarian field howitzers. It proved itself by its reliability and went on serving after Czechoslovakia came into being; the upgraded vz. 14/19 variant received a longer barrel and a modified carriage. This kit captures the original vz. 14 version. The howitzer was valued for its good balance of firepower and weight, and in its variants it stayed in the armament of several armies long after the First World War, which makes it a rewarding subject across periods.
A metal barrel, if it is included in the package, adds strength to the model — give attention to cleaning up and to careful gluing of the carriage and its controls. Use thin cement for plastic, a primer and an airbrush. Distinguish the wooden and metal parts of the gun in color, so that the contrast of the materials comes out. Weather the spoked wheels and the shield with a dark wash and dust pigments; concentrate the settled dust at the lower part of the carriage and at the outriggers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
