A single figure of an assault infantryman with a weapon for targets under cover, in 1:35 scale. It brings a scene to life and gives it a human measure.
Responsibility details are not available.
The figure captures a soldier of the assault infantry, that is the man who in modern combat is the first to enter built-up areas and a line of trenches. The equipment of such a man has changed beyond recognition over the past two decades: a ballistic vest with hard plates, a helmet with rails for night-vision devices, a load-bearing system with harnesses, and on top of that a grenade launcher, with which targets under cover that a rifle cannot manage are destroyed.
With this class of model the stance and the proportions matter more than the number of small details. A soldier under a full load moves differently from an infantryman of the first half of the last century: his center of gravity is higher, his shoulders are pulled forward and he holds his weapon closer to the body. That is exactly why the figure becomes a useful measure for a whole scene: as soon as it stands beside a vehicle, the viewer immediately judges its real size.
Where to put it: a single figure works on its own on a small base as well as an accessory to a larger view. In 1:35 scale an adult man measures roughly five centimeters, so he fits into a diorama the size of a palm without the scene looking overcrowded.
On painting: with modern equipment what decides the outcome is distinguishing the materials, not a variety of colors. A nylon strap, the hard shell of a helmet and the matte cloth of a uniform each reflect light differently; it is enough to keep a single shade and to create the difference by breaking the color and by the degree of sheen. Leave the face and the hands until last; they are the only areas a viewer notices on a figure before the equipment.
