This resin set from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel brings a round street fountain in 1:35 scale. A fountain is among the most rewarding architectural elements of dioramas: it defines the space as a town or village square at once and gives the scene a natural center around which life plays out.
European towns and villages were built around sources of water for centuries, so a fountain fits credibly into a scene from almost any period, from a peaceful civilian vignette to a wartime snapshot with equipment driving through a square. A round plan is universal in composition: it works as a focal point to which the gaze of the figures and of the viewer converges, and it contrasts beautifully with the edges of the surrounding buildings and vehicles.
Wash the resin parts free of the mold release agent and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Support the stone texture with a light base, an oil or acrylic wash in the joints and drybrushing along the edges; greenish growths of algae at the water level and a darker band of damp above it will give the fountain a credible age. You can create the water surface with a layer of gloss varnish or of a casting resin for water effects.
