A plastic kit, 1:35 T-34/76 mod. 1943 with a commander cupola, Factory No. 112 from Dragon, a particular production version of the Soviet medium tank with individual track links (Magic Tracks) and a photo-etched fret.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet medium tank T-34/76 model 1943 in the form given to it by Factory No. 112 (Krasnoye Sormovo in Gorky), and already with a commander cupola. The manufacturer is Dragon. In the package you will find Magic Tracks, individual separate track links (you do not have to cut them from sprues), a photo-etched fret for fine elements such as the grilles and the engine deck louvers, a metal tow cable and newly shaped parts of the turret, the wheels and the idler wheel. The commander cupola is made by slide molding with internal detail, and the hatches can be built open or closed.
Why does Factory No. 112 matter? The T-34 was built in several factories at once, and each of them made it slightly differently: differently cast turrets, different hatches, different edge shapes, different small details. A machine from one factory can be told from one from another at a glance. A modeler therefore has to know which factory they are building, or they will build a tank that never actually ran. Factory No. 112 (Krasnoye Sormovo) had a hand of its own: a characteristic cast turret with pronounced edges and casting transitions, and its own way of building the hull. It also introduced new features quickly, which is why the commander cupola appears early on its machines.
The commander cupola is a fundamental improvement. Early T-34s had wretched visibility and the commander had to work the gun at the same time; he could not properly command, and being unable to see out was a fatal weakness in combat. The cupola with its vision ports, introduced in the summer of 1943, finally gave the commander all-round vision. The T-34 itself was a revolutionary combination of steeply sloped armor (a sloped plate works as if it were thicker), wide tracks (driving in mud and snow where others got stuck) and a powerful diesel engine.
Assemble the Magic Tracks in longer runs on a flat surface and let them hang before the glue sets; you will get a natural sag. Paint the running gear before you close the hull. Soviet green (4BO) needs the upper surfaces lightened and some modulation, or the model will read as one flat mass. Bring out the cast surfaces of the turret with a coarser texture (filler plus a stiff-bristled brush). For weathering use a dark wash, chipping on the edges with graphite or dark steel, and dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
