A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler for a kit of the antiaircraft version of the armored car. The package holds no model of the vehicle; these are accessory metal parts for a kit you already own, cut for one particular kit, from Bronco. On antiaircraft forms photo-etch makes exceptional sense: the turret is open or partly open, so the inside is in view, and around the weapon mount there is a whole series of thin sheet-metal and wire elements that plastic cannot mold at a realistic thickness.
The T17E2 was the antiaircraft variant of the Staghound armored car. On it the standard gun turret was replaced by a low turret with a pair of 12.7 mm heavy machine guns worked hydraulically, which allowed quick aiming at an air target. The vehicles served with Allied units and in practice were often used against ground targets too, because the threat from the air was limited in the later phase of the war. The turret was open at the top, which opens up room for a modeler to detail the space for the crew.
As soon as a part has been cut out of the fret, a small remnant stays on its edge. It is precisely the removal of that which divides clean work from careless. Do not file it from the side, as the part may get bent - lay the part on a hard flat surface, hold it down with a finger or tweezers and sand the fret tab remnant with a fine diamond file or a sanding sponge by drawing along the surface. With very small parts it proves its worth to stick them temporarily to masking tape so that they do not move. Then polish the edges lightly, as a sharp burred edge will create a visible light stripe once painted. With an open turret, watch that photo-etch already fitted does not get in the way when further parts are closed in; proceed from the inside out and keep trying things dry. Degrease the metal parts and treat them with a primer before painting, as on an open turret the surface will be permanently in view.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
