Lattice girders are among the most characteristic elements of an industrial setting. In modeling terms they have two great advantages. First, they establish the character of a scene at once - as soon as a lattice girder appears above a view, the viewer reads the setting as industrial. Second, they work with light: the open structure casts a strong shadow on the surfaces below, which can enliven even an otherwise uninteresting background.
