About product

Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.F1 of late production 1:35 - a photo-etched set, version B with ammunition

A photo-etched detailing set in brass sheet for a plastic model of the Pz.Kpfw.IV tank in the Ausf.F1 version of late production from the Tamiya 35374 kit, 1:35 scale. This is the B form, which is extended by ammunition compared with the basic variant. The set does not replace the model — it is an accessory that is fitted to a kit under construction.

Ammunition and the interior that can be seen

Rounds are a special case on a model. As long as they are closed up inside the hull, nobody sees them; as soon as you open a hatch or place the model in a scene with a crew replenishing ammunition, they become the most closely watched parts on the table. A real round has a smooth cylindrical shape with a sharp transition to the projectile, and in plastic it is always marked by the parting line of the mold, which you have to sand away laboriously — and in doing so you destroy the accurate circular cross section. The added parts get around that compromise. The rest of the set is then devoted to what is thin on the surface of a late Ausf.F1: the covers, the mounts and the rims.

Tips for working with small parts

Prepare the smallest parts in a batch, but glue them one at a time. A tried and tested procedure: leave the fret whole, release the parts from it only at the moment you are about to use them, and work in a shallow dish or over a tray, so that a part that springs away does not end up on the floor. For handling, tweezers with a fine tip and a gentle spring are better than strong tweezers, which will shoot the part away. Paint the rounds and similar small items before fitting, placed on a piece of masking tape with the sticky side up — on the model you will no longer reach them cleanly with a brush. Pick up the cyanoacrylate glue with a needle, not straight from the bottle.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want to add ammunition and an open compartment to a model.
  • Builders of scenes where you can see inside the vehicle.
  • Experienced modelers used to working with very small parts.

The set is an accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is extended by ammunition compared with the basic variant. The exact extent of the addition and the material used are stated in the manufacturer's instructions.

A closed model will not show much of it. It makes sense with open hatches, on a model with a crew, or in a scene with ammunition being replenished.

Stick them lightly on masking tape turned sticky side up and spray them before fitting. On the model you will no longer reach them cleanly.
