About product

M1919 7.62 mm machine gun 1:35 (E.T. Model)

A photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from E.T. Model devoted to the American 7.62 mm M1919 machine gun, that is the air-cooled weapon that was used during the Second World War and afterwards both in the infantry role and as armament for armored and wheeled vehicles. The set holds flat metal parts with which the coarser plastic sections of the weapon are replaced or added to. It is not a finished weapon and not a kit of a vehicle.

What the set is for

Weapons supplied in kits are limited by what molding can do: the perforated barrel jacket tends to be only suggested by engraving, the sights and the trigger group are thickened, and the load-bearing parts of the mount look clumsy. Photo-etched sheet makes it possible to show thin sections and see-through openings the way they look on the real weapon, and that tells above all on a machine gun set up on a turret or on a mount, where the weapon is practically in the foreground of the composition.

Building and painting tips

Work from the largest parts to the smallest and keep trying their position dry before you start gluing. Form the cylindrical sections of the barrel jacket gradually around a drill bit or a needle of matching diameter, so that the sheet does not crease the edge. Degrease the metal with alcohol and glue it with small drops of cyanoacrylate applied on the tip of a wire. For painting use a base coat for metal, a dark steel or blackish gray shade, and then bring the surface out gently with drybrushing with a graphite or metallic pigment on the edges that the crew touches most.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of armored and wheeled vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who display a vehicle with an exposed weapon in the foreground
  • More experienced modelers used to working with tweezers and photo-etched parts
  • Collectors of detail sets for infantry and vehicle armament

This is an accessory photo-etched set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The set is an accessory intended to refine the weapon on a model. The metal parts replace or add to the plastic sections; the core of the weapon itself usually stays from the base kit.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Solvent cement for plastic does not work on metal, because it does not soften it.

A base coat for metal, a dark steel or blackish gray shade and finally light drybrushing with a metallic pigment along the edges. Glossy black and bright silver both look unconvincing.

The minimum is a sharp scalpel, tweezers and a flat surface. A photo-etch bender and needles of various diameters make the work markedly easier, especially on the rounded parts.
